SPECIFICATION DEVELOPMENT

Specification Development

Any good vision system must start with a complete specification of what the vision system is supposed to do.  The problem is that most end users do not know how to do this.  Greg Dallstream & Associates believes that this is just part of the expertise we bring to the table.

If the application is measurement based then the measurement resolution and repeatability must be determined ahead of time and put in the specification.  If the application is flaw and defect detection then the flaws and defects must be quantified.  Flaws and defects are quantified in both minimum size and minimum contrast.  Minimum size can be the actual size of the defect or the size of an enclosing rectangle around the defect.  Minimum contrast is the difference expressed in grey scale from the defect to the background.  Other critical items that make up a good specification is the rate of the machine, the triggering and communication method, and an accurate description of the defects to be detected.
